CTRI Draws Crowd at First Town Hall

More than 70 CTRI members, representatives from partner institutions, researchers, staff, and interested community members came to hear about CTRI’s mission and collaboration possibilities at CTRI’s first “Town Hall” meeting on September 30 at the East Campus Office Building on UC San Diego’s La Jolla medical campus. Gary S. Firestein, MD, Director of CTRI, Dean and Associate Vice Chancellor of Translational Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, gave an overview of the Institute, “Transforming the CTRI and UCSD: From Silo to Collaboration.” After the presentation, CTRI staff was on hand to field individual questions and discuss ways to help investigators with their research endeavors.

UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) is part of a national Clinical and Translational Science Award consortium, led by the National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Science. Established in 2010, ACTRI provides infrastructure and support for basic, translational and clinical research throughout the San Diego region to bring discoveries from the laboratory to the bedside, and facilitates training and education of the next generation of researchers. ACTRI carries out its activities in collaboration with institutional and corporate partners and currently has more than 1,500 members.
