The UCSD CRCHD provides the leadership, infrastructure and resources to achieve the following goals: Expand minority health and health disparities research activities by conducting interdisciplinary biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and community-based applied research. Focus areas include the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of Cardiovascular, Hepatic, Glomerular diseases, HIV/AIDS, and Hypertension in Hispanic, African American, Native American, and other populations at risk for health disparities. Provide health information to minority and other underserved communities, as well as inform the scientific and professional communities about health disparities; and promote the participation of health disparity groups in biomedical and behavioral research. Prepare new investigators to conduct culturally relevant research in minority health and health disparities. |

Prime HeQ |
The UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) Program in Medical Education – Health Equity (PRIME-HEq) is part of a system-wide effort at the University of California to train physicians better able to meet the needs of the PRIME-HEq is an inclusive program designed to build on students’ interests and backgrounds in community service. PRIME-HEq faculty work with students to identify populations or communities at risk for health disparities. Students will then receive exposure, training, and the opportunity to work with the identified group to further their passion in the area and provide knowledge and skills to better equip the students to improve health equity for the group.diverse Californian population who are traditionally underserved by the medical system. |

The University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine Hispanic Center of Excellence (UCSD SOM HCOE) supports the development of scientific knowledge and research skills of Hispanic students so that they may successfully complete their course of study and thereby increase the number of Hispanic health professionals serving our communities and the number of Hispanic faculty in health professions schools. |
