Dr. Murphy is a Director of Health Services Research Course and also Manages/Teaches the Clinical Decision Analysis CLRE-264 Course in the CREST/MAS in Clinical Research program. His clinical specialties include gastrointestinal cancer, and palliative radiotherapy. Within the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences he serves as the chief of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Service, and chief of Palliative Radiation Therapy.

A graduate of Columbia University (B.S., Applied Mathematics, 2000) and the University of Michigan (M.D., 2007), Dr. Murphy completed his residency in radiation oncology at Stanford University, where he also received a master’s degree in epidemiology.

Dr. Murphy’s research interests revolve around clinical research, as well as health outcomes and epidemiology research. Dr. Murphy is the principal investigator on clinical trials involving pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, plus he serves as the site principal investigator on cooperative group trials. Ongoing health outcomes projects include identifying and reducing health disparity, creating patient-based risk assessment tools, and defining the patterns of care of radiation across the US on a population-based level. A dedicated clinical researcher, Dr. Murphy has published over 50 journal articles.
