Created 3 years ago,
Academy of Clinician Scholars is an elected group of 80 full-time faculty members who provide direct patient care at least 50% of the time and demonstrate high scholarly achievement. AOCS activities include annual awards to junior clinical faculty to fund meritorious research, a professional educational program that promotes new evidence-based practices, and a grant funded annual project to improve patient-physician communication. While any CTRI faculty member will be regarded as an ambassador to promote clinical research and Best Practices to community health providers, AOCS members are particularly suited for this activity.
The Academy is committed to promoting evidence based Best Practices in the community, such as translating the latest research advances into clinical practice. This is being achieved through the Best Practices program, which includes
- Best Practices seminar series and journal club at UCSD that can be attended by community physicians or viewed by web cast
- Regular grand rounds at PPH and outlying medical groups in San Diego and Imperial Counties
- A new one-on-one mentoring program for young community physicians with quarterly meetings to discuss problems in practicing medicine in remote locations
- Other CME activities at local community health systems, such as noon conferences.
AOCS has also established a standing committee to engage community-based professionals in these activities.
