The mission of UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) is to provide research resources, training, and collaboration opportunities for ACTRI scientists, health care providers, and the community. To achieve this, the ACTRI’s Community Engagement Division is seeking partnerships with community-based organizations who care about the health of the clients and populations they serve and represent.
The vision of Community Engagement is to serve as a bridge between researchers and the community, advancing collaborative solutions to San Diego’s most pressing health challenges. The development of existing and ad hoc relationships into full and lasting partnerships will help us achieve many goals:
The community having a meaningful and active role in determining the research and training priorities of the ACTRI
Expanding ranks of community-engaged researchers
Bi-directional communication between researchers and members of clinical, policy, and lay communities
New community-driven and culturally relevant research being conducted
Research findings being translated into therapies and health education programs that are understood by many communities, endorsed by public health agencfies and health insurers, and widely disseminated so that communities have new tools with which to improve human health and increase access to high-quality health care services
Workshop for Health Workers (Promotores)
Training materials are available
here for a “Research Fundamentals Workshop” designed to help community health workers (Promotores) understand basic research concepts and learn more about the process.
Community Engagement welcomes questions, dialogue, and partnerships from local:
