The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) supports a wide variety of Student Interest Groups (SIGs). These groups offer students an opportunity to meet, formally and informally, through common interests and goals, participate in leadership experiences, and create balance in their lives as medical students.
The UC San Diego School of Medicine has a wide range of interest groups. Everything from the local chapter of the American Medical Student Association to Dermatology; Sports Medicine, Pediatrics, Ultrasound Medicine and Radiology. We also support many groups that are outside of medical interest such as Music, LGBTQ+, and Surfing. We have an interest group for everyone here!
Any student is free to start a new SIG and/or join a group that already exists. All new and continuing SIGs must register via the Online SIG Registration Form in the fall each year to be eligible for Annual Funding and to reserve rooms on campus. The deadline to register groups for the 2022-2023 academic year is Wednesday, October 5.
New SIGs may be created and former SIGs renewed by registration after the fall deadline. These late registrants may reserve rooms but they will not be eligible for Annual Funding. SIGs that register after the fall deadline may apply for Supplemental Funding as long as they are registered before the deadline for the relevant quarter.
