White Coat Ceremony

Student after receiving their White Coats

The Dean and the Faculty of the School of Medicine are proud to present the White Coat Ceremony and The Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

Please Note: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2024 will be restricted to student participants only. The ceremony will be live-streamed for viewing by family and friends. Details will be posted here prior to the event.

Linking these two ceremonies together provides an inspiring start to the academic year. In the White Coat Ceremony, the Class of 2024 is welcomed into the medical community in the presence of family, friends, and faculty members. These entering students are fitted with their first white coats and take their first step towards the responsibility of the physician by reciting the Oath of Hippocrates.

In the Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony, we honor selected senior medical students. These students have demonstrated exemplary behavior that promotes humanism in medicine, excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.

The keynote speaker is Linda Hill, MD and the recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. The speaker is nominated for this award by her peers and chosen by a sub-committee of the UC San Diego Health Sciences Faculty Council.
