To ensure the health and safety of the UC San Diego community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 School of Medicine Commencement Ceremony will be held virtually.

Please join us for our broadcast of the virtual UC San Diego School of Medicine Commencement ceremony. A link to the public streaming webcast of the ceremony will be posted on this page prior to the event. Students participating in the ceremony will be sent a separate link using Zoom.

President of the University of California

Our keynote commencement speaker will Michael V. Drake, MD, president of the University of California. Appointed to the role in August 2020, Dr. Drake is the 21st president of our university system, which includes 10 campuses, five medical centers, three nationally affiliated labs, more than 280,000 students and 230,000 faculty and staff. 

Dr. Drake previously served as president of The Ohio State University. Prior to his six years there, Dr. Drake's entire academic career has been with the University of California, including as chancellor of UC Irvine, system-wide vice president for health affairs, and Steven P. Shearing Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF School of Medicine. He received his A.B. from Stanford University and his medical degree, residency and fellowship in ophthalmology from UCSF.
