The Goldberg lab studies survival and regeneration in the visual system. With a focus on molecular and developmental regulation of signaling and transcription, they use a combination of techniques ranging from in vitro assays to various in vivo models, with a goal of reversing the regenerative failure seen after injury or in neurodegenerative diseases like glaucoma or ischemic optic neuropathy. The lab maintains interests in stem cell biology relevant to retinal development and cell therapy, and in the use bioengineering approaches including magnetic nanoparticles and 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering.
