Research Description
Cognitive control is the fundamental ability of our brains to focus on goal-relevant information, while suppressing both internal and external distractions. At the Neural Engineering and Translation Labs (NEAT Labs) we aim to develop an improved understanding of neural circuits underlying cognitive control in both humans and animals. Dr. Mishra leads human research at NEATLabs. We develop innovative mobile neuro-cognitive technologies for assessing brain function in real world community settings, including schools and clinics, to assay cognitive control across the lifespan and across the mental health spectrum. We also develop closed loop neurotechnologies that target recovery of dysfunctional cognitive control circuits in neuropsychiatric patient populations. Finally, we have active collaborations with the NEATLabs animal research team led by Dr. Dhakshin Ramanathan, to understand the brain mechanisms underlying cognitive control, at multiple neural scales.
