Rama Ranganathan MD, PhD is a
professor in the Department of Pharmacology
at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center and holds the Cecil
H. and Ida M. Green Chair in Biomedical Science.
As a graduate of the the
UCSD MSTP (Department of Biology, 1992 and
School of Medicine, 1994), Rama
has had (and continues to enjoy) a prolific
career as a
physician-scientist, having trained and
collaborated with some of the most
exceptional scientists, published groundbreaking
research in the most
prestigious journals, and awarded the honor of
being an HHMI Investigator.
Rama is definitely
one of our star alumni!

I imagine that all of you, except for possibly
the first-years, are aware of Abul Abbas’ work and role in your education as he
is the Editor of Robbins, the wonderful pathology textbook. He is also
internationally known in the research world having conducted seminal studies in
the field of autoimmunity. Moreover, Dr. Abbas is the
Chair of Pathology at UCSF and thus may be a person with whom you will have
contact later in your careers.
