Rotators for Visiting Residents

Elective Rotators

Physicians currently training in a domestic ACGME accredited program and interested in a rotation with UC San Diego need to first contact the UC San Diego residency or fellowship program to discuss a possible rotation.

Elective rotations are accepted at the discretion of the individual training program. Osteopathic residents from outside of California must have a full, unrestricted California D.O. license to rotate at UC San Diego.

 


Non-Elective Rotators

Physicians from Balboa Naval Base, Scripps (Green and Mercy), Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD), and Eisenhower Medical Center rotating at UC San Diego, please complete the following steps to ensure you are registered properly for your rotation:

1. Contact the Office of Graduate Medical Education

Call or email Ann Zultner no less than four weeks prior to the start of your rotation to discuss UC San Diego GME registration requirements and scheduling. You will not have computer access until the first day of your rotation.

2. Complete Documents & Training

Complete and provide the following documents no less than three weeks before your rotation start date. Note we require a TB screen within three months of the beginning of a rotation.

You will also receive an email with your UC Learning Center Login Information. UC Learning Center training will be available/assigned to you on your rotation start date. You should complete this training as soon as you receive the assigned courses and no later than 48 hours after your start date.

3. After Completing & Submitting All Required Documents

You will receive instructions on how to:

  • Obtain a temporary photo ID badge
  • Arrange for parking on campus
  • Access UC San Diego's computer systems/applications

4. Upon Completion of your Rotation

You are responsible for returning your ID badge to Security (Mail Code 8843). If you do not return your ID badge or you lose your ID badge and you are scheduled for another rotation, the Security office will charge you $35 for a replacement.

 


Returning Rotators Within a Given Academic Year

At least three weeks before you are scheduled to return for another rotation, contact the GME office and provide the dates of your planned rotation and the name of the UC San Diego program. After your rotation is entered into our system, you will receive instructions on how to obtain an updated photo ID badge and how to access UC San Diego's computer systems/applications.

UC San Diego's academic year runs from July 1 – June 30.

 

Parking & Directions

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is located at the in the Multipurpose Facility (402 Dickinson Street) at UC San Diego Medical Center (Hillcrest).

Parking permits are required on University property at all times, 24 hours a day, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. General parking information is available at the UC San Diego Transportation website.

UC San Diego Medical Center (Hillcrest)

  • Paid short term visitor parking is available in the Arbor Parking Structure. Payment is made at a pay station or via Park Mobile. Pay stations do not dispense change.
  • House staff holding B permits from the medical center may park in the First Avenue Parking Structure (4200 First Avenue, San Diego).

UC San Diego La Jolla Campus (including Jacobs Medical Center)

  • House staff holding B permits may park in any campus parking structure with B spots.

VA Medical Center

For the VA Medical Center, parking permits may be obtained at the VA Police Office in the main entrance on the first floor. There is no charge for your parking permit at the VA. You must provide your auto license plate number to receive your permit.
