Advances in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Course Description

This interactive one-day virtual activity will present cutting edge new opportunities for improving assessment and management of patients with gastrointestinal conditions, and place recent advances in context of current assessment and management paradigms.

Specific topics that will be covered include:
•    New Colorectal Cancer Screening Guidelines
•    Achieving Health Equity in GI
•    Artificial Intelligence for Optimizing GI Practice
•    Current and Emerging Strategies for Addressing Gastrointestinal Bleeding and Biliary Stone Disease
•    Assessing and Treating Acute Liver Failure and Decompensated Cirrhosis
•    Treatment of Hepatocellular Cancer
•    New Strategies for Management of Ulcerative Colitis
•    Crohn’s Disease

The virtual format includes keynote presentations by internationally known guest speakers, short, evidence-based updates by UC San Diego faculty, and interactive presentations and panel discussions of challenging cases.

Target Audience

This initiative is designed for gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, internal medicine physicians and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with GI and liver disease.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this symposium, participants will be able to:

  • Identify novel colorectal cancer screening guidelines
  • Describe strategies for achieving health equity in GI
  • Discuss emerging applications of artificial intelligence for improving GI practice
  • Identify new tools and techniques available for managing gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Recall new strategies for management of biliary stone disease
  • Identify approaches to distinguishing between acute on chronic liver failure and decompensated   cirrhosis
  • Discuss novel treatment approaches for hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Apply optimal approaches to management of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease

About Us

The UC San Diego Division of Gastroenterology strives to grow as a nationally recognized center for compassionate, comprehensive and innovative care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases .  We seek new treatments through research and we educate physicians and scientists on how best to approach the care of patients with these diseases.
