Health New Employee Orientation (NEO)

Congratulations on your new position with UC San Diego Health!  We are very excited to have you join us!

Generally, New Employee Orientation (NEO) is held every other Tuesday. You will receive details from our Onboarding Specialist.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and NEO is scheduled from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with a 1-hour lunch break.

What to Expect

NEO is customized for each new employee. You will attend for at least two days; however, new ​hires in clinical positions will attend additional orientation. On your first day of NEO, you will be given part of your orientation schedule. You can contact your supervisor/manager or Human Resources for more information on your schedule.

Pre-Employment Physical

All new hires at UC San Diego Health must undergo a pre-employment physical. If you haven’t scheduled your pre-employment physical, please follow the instructions as outlined in your offer letter.

The pre-employment physical will include a drug screen, immunity screening for tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough and during flu season, a flu shot. Please bring any immunization records with you to your appointment. You cannot begin employment at UC San Diego Health until you have been cleared by our Center of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Background Check

All new hires at the Health are required to pass a background check. You will receive an email with a link to fill out the online form to initiate a background check. If you have any questions about this process, contact Human Resources at 619-543-3200.

Parking at Orientation

Specific parking instructions will be provided by our Onboarding Specialist, based on the location of the orientation(s). Orientation locations vary.
