Mandatory Readings & Training

All new employees at UC San Diego Health are registered to complete a set of mandatory trainings.

These trainings are conducted through the online learning system, the UC Learning Center. You will receive access information from Health Sciences Human Resources on the second day of New Employee Orientation during the Information Services session.

Below is a list of mandatory readings prior to NEO (printing is optional).

In addition, the Information Services Department provides an overview of:

  • Telecommunication systems and services
  • System access codes
  • Emergency codes
  • Mail system (Outlook)
  • Computer security policy
  • Available computer courses
  • The Language Line
  • HIPAA privacy and confidentiality
  • EPIC (electronic medical records ) system for clinical personnel

Job Description Acknowledgement

All new employees have to acknowledge they have read and understand their job description. All job descriptions are housed in the online job description program, Lawson. You will receive access information on the second day of New Employee Orientation during the Information Services session.

UC Whistleblower Policy

The University of California has a responsibility to conduct its affairs ethically and in compliance with the law. UC San Diego Health Sciences strongly supports this responsibility and wants all employees to be aware of the process to “blow the whistle” on improper activities. Medical Center Policy on Work, Time, Attendance (MCP 670.1)

The purpose of this policy is to set out guidelines and procedures governing the use of sick time and accommodation of unscheduled employee absences in the work force. Read the Work, Time, Attendance Policy.

Payroll and Timekeeping Manual

UC San Diego Health​ uses Huntington Business Systems (HBS) for payroll processing. All hours reported appear within this system. Time worked is recorded as follows:

  • Non-exempt employees use the telephone to call HBS to record all clock-ins and clock-outs
  • HBS auto-generates the hours worked for exempt staff.
